Medial Protrusion of Silastic Implant after Type 1 Thyroplasty

Abstract
The surgical treatment strategy in dysphonia resulting from incomplete glottis closure is generally based on trying to medialize the affected vocal fold(s). the still most frequently applied method to achieve such a medialization is the type 1
thyroplasty. Generally, no complications such as dyspnea, stridor, or infection have occured after operation. But, some reversion of the voice can occur several or more months later after medialization of the vocal fold due to the several
factors.
We
observed rare postoperative complication, two cases of medial protrusion of silastic implant. We removed the protruded silastic implant under local and general anesthesia, and reported with leterature. (Korean J Otolaryngo1 39 : 6, 1996)
